The scam involves a caller claiming to be from the New Zealand Telecommunications Forum saying they will upgrade your modem to get super fast fibre.
This is a scam. The only communication you can expect to receive from the TCF is an SMS if you have requested to switch your mobile phone number.
If you receive a call from the TCF which you believe to be suspicious, please hang up. Do not share any personal information with the caller.
Please report the call to your telecommunications provider so they can block the number. It is helpful if you can provide your telecommunications provider with:
- Your name
- Your account number
- Your contact number
- The number you received the call on
- The number you received the call from (if this is available)
- The time and dates that the calls were received
- A description of what happened on the call
