2017 TCF Report Shows Bright Outlook for Telco Industry

Mar 23, 2017

“When you compare telco services in New Zealand to the rest of the world, you realise we have fantastic infrastructure” said Russell Stanners, CEO of Vodafone NZ, at this morning’s 2017 TCF (New Zealand Telecommunications Forum) report launch.

Kate McKenzie, the newly appointed CEO of Chorus, recently with Telstra Australia, agreed. “When you compare the way infrastructure is being rolled out here to Australia, it’s vastly superior” she commented.

The final member of the panel of CEOs who discussed the report findings and offered their own insights into the future of the industry was Stewart Sherriff from 2Degrees. “As Kiwis, we have a tendency to beat ourselves up a little bit. But the reality is in the 42 years I’ve worked in the global telco industry, this is the best environment I’ve been in. As a senior leadership team we work to do good for all New Zealanders.”

The CEO panel discussion echoed the overview of the 2017 Industry report, presented by TCF CEO Geoff Thorn. Key take outs of the report are:

  • The industry works well together in the interests of consumers.
  • 2017 has seen several successful collaborations, including service recovery in Kaikoura.
  • Demand is driving growth, and this is increasing exponentially with new technology trends.
  • Costs for consumers continue to decline, compared to comparable utilities.
  • The Industry continues to invest heavily, despite a low return on assets.
  • Consumers have access to world class services.
